ESCOLA AZUL
COMPLETED
The Blue School project aims to recognize schools that work with the ocean and commit them to playing a decisive role in educating young people with greater ocean literacy. It is coordinated by the Directorate-General for Marine Policy and has the scientific and cooperation support of Ciência Viva. Sines Tecnopolo is responsible for regional coordination in the Alentejo region.
Ocean literacy is defined as understanding the influence of the ocean on us and our influence on the ocean. This understanding should not be exclusively theoretical. An ocean literate person translates their knowledge into effective changes in attitude that serve as an impetus for building a bluer society.
With this objective in mind, we seek to encourage schools to work with the ocean in a structured, interdisciplinary and vertical way. We aim for work around the ocean to go beyond the classroom context and to have an impact on society, both through the involvement of local communities and through the participation of different stakeholders in the maritime sector.
This project is aimed at public or private educational institutions that want to or are developing projects related to the ocean. It has the partnership of a wide variety of entities related to the sea, highlighting from the outset the different dimensions in which the ocean can be worked on.
